RACE REPORT: CONWAY – WHEEL MAN
Written By: Ryan Heavner Racing
3/31/08 (St. Louis, MO) The odds were against the Ryan Heavner Racing crew at the Conway event this past weekend. Ryan qualified on the outside pole, which at this particular race track, the outside is not where you want to be. When the green flag dropped, Ryan went into turn one and worked his way in line after losing a few spotsdropping back to fifth place. Ryan was a hard charger to get back to the front, as he progressed and aimed to gain another position by going to the inside of another competitor, they got together and both spun. Without bringing out a caution, both Ryan the his competitor quickly got back into the race. Unfortunately, with time as a factor in a 15 lap feature event, we were only able to come home in 7th place in Blue Lite.
In the Blue Heavy feature, Ryan qualified in the 3rd position, a much better starting position. As the green flag dropped, Ryan charging hard into turn one, cut down a right front tire on lap one resulting in a DNF.
Regardless of the odds against us this weekend, so was Mother Nature. After replacing the front nose and preparing for the big Pro Blue Feature event, in which Ryan was ready to redeem himself. We were able to get one round of practice in, which the stop watch showed we were ready to be a major continder. However, the Rain Gods decided to end the evening!
Therefore, as we left this weekends event, we simply thanked the Lord for his watchful mercy and prayed for a better weekend next time.
