RACE REPORT: POSSOM KINGDOM – BELTON, SC
Written By: Ryan Heavner Racing
10/7/08 After a month of Pro Challenge Car testing and viewing you would think it would take Ryan O a little time to get used to his kart seat again. Well, Ryan shot all the worried out of the water at weekend’s end as he would come home with three solid top five runs.
In the Blue Lite division he would grab inside second row after his qualifying run. This is Ryan’s second favorite starting spot, however after several attempts to get the race underway officials decided to move the second row to the front. This put Ryan in his favorite starting spot, pole! However, when the green flag dropped, Ryan failed to pull his Tod Miller powered Icon low enough going into turn 1 and he found himself on the outside getting shuffled back several positions. With 15 laps to make ground, he powered his Icon back to the 3rd, almost 2nd position. All in all, it was a very good run that we thought could have been a victory, but a small driver error brought us up just a little short.
In Blue Heavy, Ryan qualified in the 4th position and got off to a dynamic start this time. He constantly battled with the leaders all 15 laps of the feature event. With this being a drafting track, Ryan knew that the best place to be before the white flag drops is in the 2nd position. The end result was the Ryan Heavner Icon brought home the Blue Heavy win.
In Pro Blue, we were next to the last class to run out of a 22 class running order, therefore the moisture had begun to creep back into the track as well as a temperature drop. The Ryan Heavner racing crew made only a few slight adjustments with the way we had been running all day when in fact, we should have made a few larger adjustments with the changes in the atmosphere and track. Regardless, Ryan qualified 3rd in the Pro Blue and with too hard a tire compound, he managed to hang on for a 5th place finish. Crew error cost us a better finish in this event, but all in all we had a wonderful day of racing.
Next weekend we are off to Blountville, Tenn. for the American Dream race. Hopefully, Ryan will again power his awesome Tod Miller Icon to Victory lane.
Ryan will back in action October 11th at Beechnut Speedway in Blountville, TN for the American Dream event. Be sure to stay tuned to the team website at weekend’s end for new photos, results, and maybe even a news story.
