RACE REPORT: THUNDER VALLEY MOTORPLEX – MAXXIS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Written By: Ryan Heavner Racing
10/7/08 On Saturday, Ryan was fast right out of the gate as he qualified his Icon in 3rd out of a 42 Kart field and the directors of the event decided to take the top 20 and run a consolation race for the final top five starting positions before the feature event. When the green flag dropped, we knew after the first lap which called for a caution that Ryans tires were not exactly as soft, believe it or not, as they should have been. Despite the error on the crews part, he managed on the white flag lap to be in a position for a solid top 5 finish as he was making an inside pass going in to turn 3 for the 3rd position coming to the checkered. However, the outside kart turned down on Ryan and they hooked together, he managed to drag himself along with his fellow competitor to a 10th place finish. He had an awesome run, but as they say in racing, it is not over till the checkered flag drops. Anyway, we still managed to be on podum with a 10th place finish and alot to ponder for the upcoming Sunday race.
On Sunday, we had a good day despite the fact that we quailifed in 9th out of a 42 Kart field, and the directors were taking only the top 25 qualifiers. Keep in mind that this event represented Champions from several states including Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, S.C., N.C., Virginia, Kansas, Pennsylvania, in other words the best of the best. It was an honor just to make the field. When the green flag dropped on Sunday, Ryan had his sights set on a victory if at all possible. He drove his Tod Miller Icon from 9th starting position to 4th before we ran out of laps but not ambition. We felt we could have won this race with laps times of 14.125 to that of 14.3 that the leaders were running, we simply ran out of time. Either way, he is and always continues to prove what a Champion he truly is. After another podum awards ceremony, we left for home and Ryan slept in the bus only to get home at 2:00AM and get up for school on Monday.
Next weekend Ryan well agian hed for a two day show in Conway S.C. put on by Mr. Earl Pearson Jr. This event is called the Lucas Oil Shootout. Hope to bring home the victory this weekend, however we are proud of Ryan and his run this weekend at the Nationals and we have built a little momentum heading into the weekend.
