RACE REPORT: CONWAY, SC – HOOTERS SHOOTOUT
Written By: Ryan Heavner Racing
1/19/09 Ryan Heavner has kicked off his 2009 season this past weekend in Conway, SC for the Hooters Shootout racing in two new classes Gold and Gold Lite. We really wanted an awesome report. However, Ryan’s opening weekend wasn’t terrible, but not the way we intend for our season to go. Saturday was freezing cold to say the least, and with a brand new protege Charger Racing Chassis and new Tod Miller Animal motor we were excited about the days two race events. We struggled in qualifying with the temperature, it was hard to figure out exactly the right tire compound we needed as well as the amount of bite. As a result we qualified rather poorly in both Gold Lite and Heavy.
In Gold Lite, we qualified 7th and in Heavy we qualified 10th. As the sun went down and the Gold Lite feature came around we struggled to maintain our position due to the wrong decision on tire compound. Adding fuel to the fire, there was a hole in the track that Ryan struggled with the entire race that constantly upset his kart. In Gold Lite, we came home with a 8th place finish, but we were better prepared for the Gold Heavy event coming up a little later.
As the Gold Heavy race got underway the Charger Racing Chassis was heading to the front in quite a dominant fashion. However, we only managed to come home with a 3rd place finish. We thought maybe we could have even pulled off a victory except for a rough scuffle with a fellow competitor that caused us to lose our momentum and therefore we were forced to finish 3rd but a proud 3rd from a 10th place starting position.
Sunday, we felt we were more prepared for the days Gold Pro event, but we woke up to mother natures rains. The race was called and we headed home only to set in a traffic jam on 1-77 for 3 hours due to a traffic mishap. Wish the weekend would have been an awesome start to our season, but we will build on this one and make it happen in 2009.
Again, it was awesome to see our true friend and one of Ryans’ fans spend the day with us Mr. Kenneth A. Please continue to watch the website for our future scheduled events to be posted soon.
