RACE REPORT: ROUGEMONT, SC – ORANGE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
Written By: Ryan Heavner Racing
3/10/09 Ryan Heavner had what I would call a Rookie Day for his first day at Orange County Speedway.
Keep in mind this was the first time Ryan has ever been on this racetrack. First practice went actually very well and we were pleased with the times Ryan was turning in regards to the veterans. We managed to practice around 16.1 while the veterans were putting down 15.8…Not far off the pace, but we needed to pick it up a little.
As the second practice rolled around, we were going to go out for 2 laps to scuff tires and maybe try to run 3 hard laps before bringing it in to prepare for qualifying. On the last lap of the second practice, Ryan broke a tie-rod end and then the crew went hard to work to get the car ready to qualify.
Ryan and crew were able to get the car fixed and we qualified fairly well for his very first attempt. He qualified in the 9th starting position for the upcoming 50 lap event.
As the green flag dropped on the feature event, Ryan did not hold back at all as he powered his 77 machine thru the field as if he had done this many times before. At 25 laps to go, the half way flag flew and as Ryan came out of turn 2 in the 5th position. However, the clutch blew apart and put a hole in the block of the engine causing us to be unable to finish the 50 lap feature.
Ryan Heavner would like to thank all their current business partners for their continued support to both the team and racing.
