RACE REPORT: HICKORY, NC – HICKORY MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Written by: Ryan Heavner Racing
LINCOLNTON, NC – (June 29th, 2009) Saturday was a beautiful day for racing, and the Ryan Heavner Racing team was prepared for an awesome day at our local track. Ryan qualified in 6th with a time of 16.45 and an average speed of 109.4 MPH at the famous little Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC.
The green flag dropped on the main event and Ryan was ready for a great race in front of many friends and family. Early into the race, after a near-miss caution, the race was restarted and Ryan charged hard to try and pull off a victory for all the local fans that took the time to come out and cheer on the hometown boy. After racing side by side, lap after lap he made a move to pass on the inside for the 3rd place position when another caution came out. When the restarted Ryan found himself back in the 4th position as the officials went back to the last completed lap as they lined of the field for the green.
As the green flag dropped once again, Ryan raced side by side really hard and drove a really clean race, trying everything he could to not give the competitor his edge. Nine laps left to go, a competitor behind Ryan going into turn one gave us a “Love Tap” in the left rear quarter panel causing the 77 machine to spin and bring out another yellow. Final 8 laps of the event, Ryan was a little determined to run down the front guys and he charged hard from the rear of the field to bring the Ryan Heavner Racing #77 machine home with a strong 6th place.
Ryan really appreciated the support of all his friends and neighbors that came out to spend the day with the race team. He especially was surprised to see several of his classmates as well as teacher come to support his efforts. Check out the 2009 photo page for the picture of all his classmates during the autograph session.
