RACE REPORT: NEWPORT, TN – NEWPORT SPEEDWAY
Written by: Ryan Heavner Racing
LINCOLNTON, NC – (August 31st, 2009) Ryan did great in practice as qualified 3rd. The pole was a 13.97, 2nd turned a time of 13.98 and Ryan came in with 14.0…Talk about a close race among the top 3 alone.
As the feature began, Ryan dropped back to 4th on the first lap and within 2 laps had taken the 3rd spot away running down the top 2 really fast and with actually faster lap times than the leader. On lap 8 of the feature, the 2nd place car hit the wall and brought out the first caution of the night. This is exactly what we needed.
On the restart, Ryan was ready for the Checkered flag before he actually got it, however, on the 2nd lap into the re-start of the race, as Ryan stuck the #77 machine under the leader coming off of turn 4 to take the lead, the throttle cable broke and we were unable to complete the main event. We felt confident that this would have been a victory for the Heavner Racing Team, but as they always say…”Thats Racing”…You have to take the good with the bad if you know what I mean.
