RACE REPORT: CORDELE, GA – WATERMELON CAPITAL SPEEDWAY
Written by: Ryan Heavner Racing
LINCOLNTON, NC – (November 21st, 2009) The Ryan Heavner Racing Team ventured down to the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga. this weekend on invite for the Thanksgiving Showdown. Ryan was the only competitor there from North Carolina, but the field was made up of several different states and countries including Florida and Canada.
Ryan did an outstanding job qualifying the #77 machine on the outside pole for the first of two 40 laps feature events. In the first feature, after qualifying, they rolled the dice only to invert the top 5 cars, where we would start in the 4th position. Having to battle with a slipping clutch, we managed to bring the #77 machine home in 3rd position in the first feature.
At the beginning of the second feature, Ryan battled really hard and with a caution free 40 lap feature, we were able to pull away from the field and distance ourselves for a comfortable 2nd place finish but we were unable to catch the # 20 Williamson machine from Florida. We were really happy with our finish this weekend having to overcome a clutch problem that Ryan dealt with and made work throughout the day.
