RYAN HEAVNER HAS SUCCESSFUL START TO NEW USAR PRO CUP CAREER WITH KIRK MAY RACING

April 5th, 2010 (ST. LOUIS, MO) Ryan Heavner and Kirk May Racing recently traveled to Jefferson, GA for Heavner’s first USAR Pro Cup event hosted at Gresham Motorsports Park. The new driver for the #14 Elite Auto Collision team spent much of the off season conditioning both his body and mind for the longer 250 lap races after running mostly 50 lap races during the prior season with the Pro Challenge Series where he had much success.
The goal for Heavner’s first USAR Pro Cup Series event was to simply keep his focus for the full 250 laps and he had great determination to finish the event, however he would do much more than just finish the race. In opening practice Heavner found himself solidly in the top 10 and he seemed to be improving with each run as he received important seat time in his new USAR ride. However, after practice Heavner found himself with a pre-qualifying infraction.
Ryan Heavner would qualify the #14 team a little further back than expected for his USAR debut after solid practice times with a 17th starting position after fighting a tight race car with a push. The top 20 qualifying run did not discourage Ryan as he shrugged it off as a learning experience he can take to future USAR races.
When the green flag dropped on the USAR Pro Cup 250 lap main event debut, Ryan Heavner started in the 17th position and he would not look back. He quickly found himself running in the top 10 and by lap 18 after 2 yellow flags he was knocking on the door of the top 5 running in the 6th position. Kirk May Racing crew chief Josh McCoy was quoted on the team radio communicating to his driver “See, patience pays off Ryan”. For the remainder of the event he held the #14 car in the top ten. Ryan would pit on lap 78 for fuel only, as the majority of the field took fresh tires. Ryan would click off another 100 laps before pitting for sticker tires. After working his way through on track incidents, miraculously says Heavner, Kirk May Racing crossed the finish with an impressive 7th place result. Youth must have paid a great factor for Ryan as following the longest race of his career he did not seem fatigued.
The #14 team is very happy after the USAR Pro Cup debut with driver Ryan Heavner and they were awarded with Rookie of the Race as Ryan was the highest finishing rookie competitor. Heavner also split the Hard Charger award tied for picking up the most positions with his KMR teammate David Wilson. Ryan would like to thank Kirk May Racing for what he says is the opportunity of a lifetime. Heavner says, “They have made a dream come true for me, and I won’t let them down. Eventually, we are going to win some races”. Ryan Heavner and KMR would also like to give a special thanks to team sponsors Elite Auto Collision, Dupont, and Lawing Marble for their support.
Ryan Heavner and Kirk May Racing is already looking forward to the second stop on the USAR Pro Cup tour. The team will travel to New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, FL on April 17th, 2010. Ryan would like to remind everyone of his PUSH method, “Pray Until Something Happens” as it has brought Ryan great success.
