RYAN HEAVNER COMES UP SHY OF PRO CUP TOP TEN AT MMS

July 19th, 2010 (Radford, VA) Lincolnton, North Carolina’s Ryan Heavner made his first trip to Motor Mile (VA) Speedway over the weekend. He was there for the running of The USAR Pro Cup Series Heritage Truck Centers 250.
“After testing on Thursday, I felt so good about my car, and was really positive going into the race knowing I was gonna have a good finish,” said Heavner. “The team worked so hard to give me the car I needed. I just came up short of being able to deliver what I felt was for sure a top-five finish. When I would hit my marks, this car did just what I wanted it to.”
The driver qualified 11th out of the 21 that took a qualifying time, but a penalized competitor being sent to the rear moved the inside line up – sending Ryan to a ninth-place starting spot.
Unfortunately, a string of mechanical failure continued for Heavner and the Elite Auto Collision team.
Heavner came to pit road under a lap 85 caution for four fresh tires, while the majority of the field took fuel only. He restarted 11th, and put the strength of his new rubber to work. It was lap 140 when the familiar sound of broken metal followed Heavner down the front straightaway of the 4/10-mile speedway.
The #14 Chevrolet had incurred its second broken rear end gear of the 2010 season, and Heavner was out of the race with an eventual 12th-place result.
“Personally, it is frustrating because of the effect it has on my points as well as my ability to finish a race,” Heavner said of the part failure. “This was the second time this season the rear end has broke, so it is by far just an inferior part. The team worked so hard for me; it is as frustrating for them as it is for me. They focus their weekend and time on me, so I am sure they want me to finish as badly as I want to finish. I truly wish we could have had the chance to finish and see where we could have ended up.”
Heavner had positive comments about MMS, but says it’s not the best speedway layout for his driving style.
“[Motor Mile Speedway] was a very nice facility and the track was in good shape, but the only disadvantage I felt was that it did not have sweeping corners like I prefer,” Heavner commented.
“I will continue to P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens),” concluded Heavner. “I want to thank Kirk May Racing for believing in me and all their hard work and dedication they devote to making me a success. I also couldn’t do this without Elite Auto Collision, DuPont, Lawing Marble, and all the fans that support my efforts.”
