HEAVNER CHARGING TOWARDS CONCORD WITH TOP TEN MOMENTUM
Written By: McCallister Precision Marketing
August 26th, 2010 (Concord, NC) Lincolnton, North Carolina’s Ryan Heavner is a rookie in USAR Pro Cup Series competition this year, but he’s already running like a champion. With an impressive ninth position in the current championship standings, second in the Rookie-of-the-Year standings, and a string of top-ten finishes behind him, the future is looking bright for the driver of the #14 Elite Auto Collision Chevrolet.
Heavner will head into the August 28 USAR Pro Cup Series Cabarrus Boys & Girls Club 250 at Concord (NC) Speedway with the strength of a seventh-place result in the last series outing behind him. That finish came at Langley (VA) Speedway on August 14.
Adding to the likelihood that 14-year-old Heavner will perform well at Concord is his previous success at the unique facility. Competing in The Pro Challenge Series in 2009, he picked up his first of four wins on the season there.
“[Concord is] very nice size for how fast the track is,” said Heavner. “I consider it like a miniature Pocono [(PA) Raceway]. I run it like that. It is just smaller.”
While Heavner is excited to head to Concord with his Kirk May Racing Chevrolet, he understands that he’ll have to re-learn the half-mile tri-oval in a Pro Cup car.
“There is a huge difference between the Pro Challenge and Pro Cup cars,” continued Heavner. “Especially in terms of weight and horsepower. But I am confident that the first win is coming. Each race I gain more experience and valuable seat time.”
Besides hounding Logan Ruffin for the lead in the Rookie-of-the-Year point standings, Heavner is setting himself up to be the youngest driver ever to finish in the series’ top-ten at season’s end. He currently sits a mere 51 points out of the top spot.
“That would be an awesome statistic to add to my resume,” said Heavner of the possibility of a top-ten championship result. “I need to stay focused. I need to finish ahead of my fellow Rookie-of-the-Year competitors in that points race, too. I appreciate all the hard work and time The KMR Team devote to my success. I will do my best for not only my team, but for my supporters, to give this championship run the best I can. I would love to be the 2010 USAR Rookie-of-the-Year, and a Championship would really add the icing to the cake,” Heavner concluded.
Fans who want to come out to meet Heavner and watch him excel as one of the nation’s brightest young stars will be excited to know that they can do so for free this weekend. USAR Pro Cup and Concord Speedway are offering free admission to The Cabarrus Boys & Girls Club 250 Saturday. There is only a $10 per vehicle parking fee, and USAR Vice-President and Series Director Jimmy Wilson says there’s no limit on vehicle occupancy.
