CONCORD, NC (December 17th, 2010) Ryan Heavner was named the 2010 USARacing Pro Cup Series Humanitarian of the Year at the Awards Banquet on Wednesday evening at the Vintage Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina.
The Humanitarian of the Year Award is given to a USARacing Pro Cup Series individual in recognition of their outstanding service, generosity, and compassion to others, both in and out of the racing community.
The 14-year old Heavner was honored for his charitable efforts to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society at the Concord race in August by selling tickets to win many donated items as well as his drivers suit. He also teamed with Doug Herbert and his BRAKES Program at South Boston Speedway to promote this program designed to teach youngsters how speed can kill in a street automobile.
At each autograph session during the season, Heavner gave fans bracelets with P.U.S.H (Pray Until Something Happens) on them to show the importance of prayer in everyday life.
“Winning this award came as a total surprise,” Heavner said. “I enjoy racing in the USARacing Pro Cup Series and I’m honored to receive this prestigious award.”
Ryan Heavner also made history in 2010 when he became the youngest competitor to drive in the USARacing Pro Cup Series. The talented rookie earned one top-five and six top-ten finishes in the fourteen race season.
