RYAN HEAVNER CLOSES 2012 RACING SEASON

October 24, 2012 by Walters Web Design

Ryan Heavner Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series ( Myrtle Beach Speedway )ST. LOUIS, MO (OCTOBER 24TH, 2012) Over the weekend, Ryan Heavner made the short trip to nearby Hickory Motor Speedway. Set to compete in the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series event against some of the best short track racers in the country. Local fans and sponsors were in attendance, as this would be Heavner’s final race of the 2012 season.

Crossing the start/finish line, Heavner was now on his all-important qualifying run, circling the .363 mile oval. The sixteen-year-old driver knew he had a good setup holding four Goodyear tires pinned to the fourteen-degree banking. Despite a slight bobble going into turn three Heavner placed the car third on the grid for the main event.

Fans lined up at the gate, soon to become spectators of the evening’s feature event. Teams set tire pressures, filled the fuel tanks and began rolling their machines to the starting grid. Drivers suited up and cleaned the visors. The race was soon to commence.

As the sun began to set, fans rose to their feet and the green flag dropped on the first of two one-hundred-twenty-five lap segments. At the beginning of the race Heavner found himself holding steady toward the front of the field. However, after only fifteen laps something changed drastically on the car.

Heavner became transferring information to the crew behind the pit wall, “I cannot get back to the gas” he continued, “It’s all over the place.” Quickly Heavner found himself one lap down to the leaders. However, with a never quit attitude, he regained his lead lap status.

Two more times Heavner would go a lap down, only to scratch and claw his way back. During the mandatory pit stop at the closing of the first segment, the team made major yet temporary adjustments in an attempt to fix the ill-handling #77 machine.

Heavner returned to the racing surface with much of the same issues. He would struggle through the final segment and relentlessly fought to bring home a sixth place finish on the same lap as the leaders.

Following an exhausting two-hundred-fifty laps the team had discovered a broken shock installed on the machine. This generated the handling issues that Heavner fought for the entire race. The team had a car that could compete for a win, unfortunately they ran out of luck Saturday night.

Jeff’s Auto Sales stepped up promotion for the weekend’s event at Hickory. They became the primary sponsor of the #77 machine with a logo featured on the hood of the BSM Chevy. Jeff is a local business owner that has supported Ryan and his P.U.S.H. Foundation all season.

Cabinets Plus out of Statesville, NC also joined the racing program at Hickory. Ryan would like to thank all his sponsors and supporters for pushing him through the 2012 season. Their help is always greatly appreciated.

Beyond the track, Ryan will continue to use his racing career as ways of promotion for his P.U.S.H. Foundation on and off the race track.
